We’ve joined forces with Patagonia Provisions to bring you an Organic Lager and Non-Alcoholic Organic Golden that are as refreshing as they are responsibly sourced. Together, we’re on a mission to shift the brewing industry toward more responsible practices by expanding the use of Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™) and organic ingredients in beer.

The Patagonia Provisions x Deschutes Brewery Kernza® Lager and Non-Alcoholic Kernza® Golden Brew are bright, crisp and wildly drinkable. They are both brewed with certified organic Kernza (a soil-saving, carbon-capturing perennial grain), certified organic Helios and Adeena hops, certified organic malted 2-row barley, and Regenerative Organic Certified® rye. The ingredients for both brews are grown in ways that improve soil health, minimize erosion, preserve biodiversity, and protect waterways. Light and easy-drinking, Kernza® Lager is 4.7% ABV and Non-Alcoholic Kernza® Golden Brew is less than 0.5% ABV.

We brew all our non-alcs in-house using Sustainable Beverage Technologies’ (SBT) patented BrewVo® technology in combination with Deschutes’ proprietary brewing methods. This groundbreaking technology allows us to gently remove alcohol from the
beer, while retaining all the flavors, aromas, mouthfeel, body and head retention the brewery’s award-winning beers are known for.

Kernza® Perennial Grain

Patagonia Provisions and Deschutes work with Mad Agriculture to source organic Kernza®, soil-saving, carbon-capturing perennial grain, from the Perennial Promise Grower’s Cooperative, a farmer-led ingredients company committed to scaling the impact of perennial grains and advancing regenerative and organic farming methods.

The Land Institute

The Land Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research organization based in Salina, Kansas, that was founded in 1976. The Land Institute co-leads the global movement for perennial, diverse, truly regenerative agriculture at scale. The Land Institute’s goal is to create an agriculture system that mimics natural systems to produce ample food and reduce or eliminate the negative impacts of agriculture.​ Kernza® is the trademark name for the grain of an intermediate wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium) being developed at The Land Institute. It is a key ingredient in our beer.

Regenerative Organic Agriculture

The ingredients for both brews are radically responsible. The Regenerative Organic Certified® rye is malted by Admiral Maltings; the organic 2-Row barley malt is sourced from Briess Malt & Ingredients Company; the organic Adeena hops come from Roy Farms; the organic Helios hops from Hopsteiner; and Imperial Yeast supplies the organic yeast.
